THE PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN PSYCHOLOGY

Design Psychology is a fairly new discipline in the design field that emphasizes the importance of being intentional in design. Design Vision Studio creates environments that represent more than “decorated” rooms. We enhance the chemistry between design and architecture. Our specialty is beautiful, functional and creative spaces that feel good to be in them.

This commissioned art piece captures a treasured wedding day moment of our clients. Using the principles of Design Psychology, our vision was to create a connection to their surroundings and be a conversation piece in their home. Our clients took a leap of faith and are thrilled with their one-of-a-kind painting.

10. High Resolution DOTY #387

Selecting art for clients is so personal – we often feel that we might as well be shopping for a bathing suit for them. In this case, we had an idea to create a commissioned piece of art depicting a treasured memory.

3. DOTY #387 - favorite wedding photoWe asked our clients to select a photo that told a story about them. Maybe a favorite vacation, travel destination, or scenery. They searched their photos and kept coming back to one taken on their wedding day by a guest.

Version 2

We pitched our idea and presented conceptual renderings. Even so, the thought of an oversize painting of themselves in their living room scared them. We promised that they wouldn’t come off as showy or vain (more fear of theirs) because their faces would not be featured. Although the clients were initially skeptical, once they saw what we had in mind they were “all in.”

8. DOTY #387 Artist at review meeting

We found Berndt Heidemann @bhartwork who was the perfect artist for this project. He specializes in a form of abstract photo-realism.  We worked with him throughout the process, selecting the precise color palette to be harmonious with the new room design.

1. DOTY #387 Original Designs - After

The end result is a beautiful, sophisticated and distinct piece of art, which has been the centerpiece of conversation amongst their friends and family. Our clients were happily pleased with their custom artwork.
