THE PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN PSYCHOLOGY
Design Psychology is a fairly new discipline in the design field that emphasizes the importance of being intentional in design. Design Vision Studio creates environments that represent more than “decorated” rooms. We enhance the chemistry between design and architecture. Our specialty is beautiful, functional and creative spaces that feel good to be in them.
This commissioned art piece captures a treasured wedding day moment of our clients. Using the principles of Design Psychology, our vision was to create a connection to their surroundings and be a conversation piece in their home. Our clients took a leap of faith and are thrilled with their one-of-a-kind painting.
Selecting art for clients is so personal – we often feel that we might as well be shopping for a bathing suit for them. In this case, we had an idea to create a commissioned piece of art depicting a treasured memory.
We asked our clients to select a photo that told a story about them. Maybe a favorite vacation, travel destination, or scenery. They searched their photos and kept coming back to one taken on their wedding day by a guest.
We pitched our idea and presented conceptual renderings. Even so, the thought of an oversize painting of themselves in their living room scared them. We promised that they wouldn’t come off as showy or vain (more fear of theirs) because their faces would not be featured. Although the clients were initially skeptical, once they saw what we had in mind they were “all in.”
We found Berndt Heidemann @bhartwork who was the perfect artist for this project. He specializes in a form of abstract photo-realism. We worked with him throughout the process, selecting the precise color palette to be harmonious with the new room design.
The end result is a beautiful, sophisticated and distinct piece of art, which has been the centerpiece of conversation amongst their friends and family. Our clients were happily pleased with their custom artwork.
In 2017, I committed to #365DaysOfDesignDVS, where I posted a new photo of one of our design projects every single day. For those of you who followed along, thank you for doing so.
By the way – I will never be so foolish to accept such a challenge again!
As 2018 begins, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to you for your valued loyalty and patronage. It is only with the support and trust of wonderful clients like you, that Design Vision Studio can continue our passion of Making Every Home Feel Like A Rock Star!
At DVS, we love improving our client’s lives by creating beautiful spaces that reflect their lifestyles and tastes. We strive to make your design and remodel experience inspiring, enjoyable, and affordable.
We look forward to seeing you in 2018 – what room is next?

A COLLECTED HOME in Palm Desert, CA
This large guest bedroom suite showcases the not so subtle differences between clutter and collection. After sitting in boxes for years, a lifetime of sports memorabilia are utilized to give this wonderful room a story to tell.
WINNING ISN’T EVERYTHING…
but WOW – it’s something!
The competition was fierce again this year and we are honored to be recognized amongst this amazing group of talented designers. And a special thank you goes to Jenny Cano, the Executive Director of IDS for a truly inspiring and wonderful conference this year.
ANOTHER REASON WE ARE PROUD MEMBERS OF IDS
This year marks the first combined conference of ART + IDS. This premier event brought together hundreds of home décor professionals, including manufacturers, importers, retailers, sales reps, product designers and interior designers. The conference provided unique networking opportunities where we were able to connect and collaborate while expanding our knowledge, learning the latest advances and best practices in our industry.
The highlight of our experience during this design conference was participating in the community project at Grand Veterans Village in Phoenix, Arizona.
In just 4 short hours, our conference attendees spent the afternoon decorating over 100 rooms, offices and the community center common space for homeless, low-income, and disabled veterans.
It was a privilege serving our veterans and it would not have been possible without our amazing volunteer crew and generous donors!
